Lowell Bernstein was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina and attended schools in Richland District 2. He graduated from the University of Virginia, with Distinction (Cum Laude), with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1990, and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law  in 1993.   While in law school, he served on both the South Carolina Law Review and The South Carolina Environmental Law Journal.

After graduating from law school, he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Karen J. Williams, of the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit. He also served as an assistant prosecutor in the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.  He then began practicing law with his father, Isadore S. Bernstein and sister, Beth E. Bernstein, and formed what is now known as Bernstein and Bernstein, LLC.

Lowell primarily represents plaintiffs in personal injury and wrongful death cases involving products liability, motor vehicle and boat accidents, premises liability, medical negligence and uninsured motorist claims.  He also represents claimants in workers’ compensation and job-related injuries and defendants in criminal cases, particularly DUIs, drug offenses, and white collar crimes.

He has been a member of the South Carolina Bar since 1993, the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Court for South Carolina since 1994. He is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, Injured Workers’ Advocates, South Carolina Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, South Carolina Bar Association, and Richland County Bar Association.
